What a way to spend holidays

I'm just leaving a quick note to let you all know I am slowly getting back to normal, or at least as close to normal for me.
Back in early December I was on medication for what was to be a bad sinus infection. But I kept getting weaker . Good reason for it though, my sinus infection turned into bronchiole pneumonia and I have never slept so much in my life.
I hope everyone had a wonderful New Year. I didn't even know it was for I slept through out every bit of it.
I do slightly remember the snow storm the day after Christmas. But only because I had posted some pictures of it on Face Book.
Better late than never, "Happy New Year".

This is my new creation: "Snow flowering cabbage".
Makes for an odd but interesting picture.
Today we really got hit and about 6 inches at first then changed to rain ice mix.
I am hibernating for now because I find that is the best way to stay out of danger or in other words, Southern drivers.
Watch it will probably be in the 70's for Christmas.

Janie was just over three years old and it was family reunion time. She was very excited that everyone was coming to the farm, especially her Great Aunt Mary. Aunt Mary wasn't like so many other ladies in the family. She always had a hug and a kiss for Janie, and she would let you talk. Of course Janie still had to learn all the right things to say. It was so hard for Janie to be prime and proper, still she would do it for Aunt Mary.

Oh, she had arrived. Janie could hardly stand still, yet she knew she must because she would get a kiss. Yes Janie did, and she also learned how to place knives, forks and spoons beside each of the plates. The napkins were special too for they were linen, they to had a special place. Then Aunt Mary showed Janie how to sit and place a napkin in her lap carefully placing one hand over the other and above all sit still and you mustn't speak unless spoken to. Oh, this part was so very hard to do, for Janie was just bursting inside to say all the things she had learned and experienced since last she had seen Aunt Mary.

The great oak table had all the extra leaves and the linen table cloth was pressed, not one wrinkle. How could there be so much food? Beef, pork, chicken and most of all a huge bowl of mashed potatoes with wonderful butter dripping down the sides. Janie had helped make the butter and had even had a small glass of buttermilk; it was heaven, she thought. She also knew that in the big pantry with all the high shelves were all kinds of pies and cakes, just out of reach for Janie had stood on tippy toes to try. Then Janie spied the most wonderful sight of all. Scalloped potatoes and ham. How would she keep from wanting to lick the plate? Had she not been taught: waste not-want not!

The dinner was going wonderful and everyone was laughing and talking. Janie did not talk for she had not been spoken to. Little ladies did not know about tractors, farm animals, hay or crops. She really did though because she had ridden on the tractor and fed the animals hay. So why couldn't she talk about these things? Janie did however watch Aunt Mary and learned what each fork and spoon was and when to use these implements.

Soon everyone was finished with all the wonderful food. The chatter began and there was so much laughter. How Janie wished to be part of all this gaiety. Aunt Mary was sitting quietly with her hands in her lap and Janie did the same. OH finally, she was being addressed. Aunt Mary had asked, "What do you want to be when you grow up, Janie?"
Janie pondered this special question and then gave her best honest answer.
"Oh Aunt Mary, I want to grow up to be just like you, an Old Maid."
You could hear a pin drop for a hundred miles it was so quiet. Janie heard Grand Mother clear her throat and I knew this usually meant trouble. Not this time, for Aunt Mary intervened and kissed my forehead and said, "I am so glad and so proud of you Janie."

I will say that the next time I received a spanking, I do think I received 'one for good measure'.

Falling in Love

Too many relationships are based on physical and sexual attraction. It took me many years to discover the shallow thinking of so many people.

I had lived a sheltered life growing up on the farm. I thought when you said, "I love you", it came from the heart and was spoken truthfully. I had no idea it was merely a way for another person to use you, for what ever was convenient for their needs.

I failed miserably when it came time to pick a life time mate. After two complete failures, I gave it up as a lost cause. I threw myself into my job and raising my two children. Even that proved to be a challenge, for the whole world was changing so fast. The children grew up, left and I was a lone. It felt as if a cocoon had enveloped my life.

Then one night I wakened from a realistic dream. There was no one to discuss it with, but there it was popping up when I least expected.

The phone rang; my brother was gone from lung cancer. The trip to his funeral was 800 miles. Everyone was on edge during the trip. After wards, I was asked to stay and help my brother's wife. I really didn't know her, but something kept tugging at my heart to stay. She didn't take to being a lone, and would drag people back to the house all hours of the day and night. Then she decided to play match maker. I flatly turned the gentleman down three times, but no one listened.

There I was, in my mid forties and this man was very attentive. Everything was falling into place so fast. As we drove up the long curving driveway past the little vine covered church, to the home place, my dream from six months earlier finally made sense. I knew I had found my soul mate and he also knew he had found his soul mate.

It hasn't been hard or painful to love completely for either of us. Nineteen years later we are still so very much in love.

I add this with a heavy heart.

Just over one month ago my beloved passed and has gone to where no harm will ever befall him.
He was diagnosed with a very rapid growing cancer two days after this article was composed. One month later he was gone.
I shall forever be grateful for the nineteen years of complete happiness and that he at least knew not to pay any attention to my saying I did not wish to date him.
Please take my true words and don't turn your back to soon, or you may never know true, complete happiness.

Art in Heaven

Today has been one of remembering. I believe it has been brought on because a song keeps popping in my head and won't go away. "Yesterday"! I came across this story I had written just before my husband was diagnosed with the deadly brain tumor. We would sit and talk for hours and then he suggested I write the story of my art in Heaven.
Here it is, enjoy!

When artists are gathered at a show, they tend to brag on the amount of art they have sold and where their art is around the world. I had only been attending shows for two years and my bragging rights were mainly the eastern half of the United States, no grand foreign countries. My shows were limited to the enclosed mall in a tourist area of the Outer Banks of North Carolina, where about six shows a year were scheduled.

I soon got over being shy and would remember people that had admired and possibly bought a piece of my art. There were a couple artists that took me under their wings and would help me, especially in pricing, and encouraging me every step of the way to be successful.

I had recently raised my prices, as suggested, when this priest that often walked through the mall to check out the work the artists had on display stopped at my booth and said, "I would like to buy one of your lighthouse etchings before you get to famous and I can't afford one."

Naturally I was so happy with a successful weekend.

About a year passed and I noticed the priest once again looking at my art. I wanted him to know that I had appreciated his patronage and that I recognized him. I shyly asked if he was enjoying the light house etching, and he replied, "Oh that wasn't for me, that was for my boss."

My mouth dropped open as I gazed towards Heaven. After several seconds, my husband realized I was in shock and gently poked me in the ribs to bring me back down to earth. He whispered to me, "I don't think he means that high up."

My face turned red as the priest smiled, winked and walked on. My husband lets my imagination run and lets me have my delusion that I have a piece of art in Heaven by saying, "Just be glad you didn't have to pay the freight."

"I want to live".

The daily calendar diary from her birth flashed as did the lightning. Janie was born amidst the violence of WWII with all the doctors and medicine being sent to the war. It was June of 1944 and Janie was two months old. It was haying season and all the available relatives had come to help. They also wanted to see the beautiful new baby girl. One of the relatives was contagious with whooping cough. This was the beginning of almost a year long fight for survival. Every day the calendar read, still no medicine, we almost lost little Janie again today.' Then on April 8, 1945 the entry read, Janie made it today she is one year old.'

The year Janie turned seven a tragic accident took the sight of her left eye. This was the beginning of a life long struggle for survival in many different forms. At age thirteen the operations were still not successful. Then at the tender age of seventeen she married and eleven months later gave birth to a beautiful baby boy. She felt that life was good and she was content and happy. Then at age nineteen Janie was informed by her doctors that the left eye would have to be removed immediately. Little did Janie know that she was also four weeks pregnant? The operation was successful and she then received the newest style plastic eye that moved just like the other eye. She also gave birth to a lovely baby girl. Life seemed to be good, but on her twenty-first birthday her husband decided to celebrate and left Janie home to tend the children. She was awakened near three in the morning barely able to breathe and feeling heavy blows to her face around her left eye. She could feel the life slipping from her body as her drunken husband choked and beat her attempting to kill her. Survival hit Janie as she found enough strength to fight free not knowing that her three year old son had already ran from the house for

Help. The last words she heard before she collapsed were, "I can't stand your eye." He ran and was never seen or heard from again.

Janie not only picked herself up and carried on but she also had two small children that she had to see survive too. Janie threw herself into raising her children and for many years didn't feel the need for a husband. As she headed for what is known as the middle ages she again attempted a relationship which failed as well. She returned home from a family funeral and found her picture tacked to the garage wall with a bullet hole through the left eye. Janie's survival instinct kicked in fast as she and her newly widowed sister-in-law packed what few clothes and personal items they could and left and never looked back.

Janie wanted nothing more to do with men at this point in her life but fate change the path once again. She had refused to date this one persistent gentleman. Then due to a fake note Janie ended up on a date with him. That night both their lives changed and a love so true and complete caught them both off guard. They spent the next nineteen years in wedded bliss, happiness and love. Janie was content as was her husband. Then in two short months happiness was snatched from her by a quick growing cancer. Her husband was taken from her and she was once again faced with survival alone.

Janie lived quietly doing what she had done before so many years ago. Then two days after her sixty-fourth birthday a note arrived on her computer simply stating, "I'll be watching for you." Feelings swept through Janie identically to the ones the day she had won the lottery so many years ago. These feelings always meant only good things to come. Sure enough he was there and a friendship grew and as with many there were some hitches to over come. That we have done. Janie will continue to survive but she wants desperately to see these words in her next instant message.

Janie's special birthday

This is a very special day for Janie, for she just celebrated her third birthday. Janie is going to visit the most special, most wonderful man in the whole world. Today Janie can talk as much as she wishes because today she is going to see her Grand parents on her Mom's side of the family.

Janie is very excited because she received her first pair of shoes that had never been worn by her older sister. They were white with a strap and buckle. The nine mile ride seemed like a hundred. Finally they arrived. She didn't have to walk like a lady today, Janie skipped all the way to the front porch, hopped up the steps and peeked through the screen door to see if Grand Dad was in his rocking chair by the door.

Yes, he was; he looked like a giant sitting there waiting for Janie to arrive. Janie slipped through the door and with a giggle showed Grand Dad her special shoes. He told her they were the prettiest shoes he had ever seen, he would like to wear them himself. Janie was so tickled by this statement,and up she went into his arms. She wrapped her tiny arms around his neck as he told her "Happy Birthday". Janie loved Grand Dad, with his snow white wavy hair, shoulders as broad as Texas and a heart and smile that big too! He stood six feet four inches tall, as well which really was a giant to Janie.

Lunch with Grand Dad was always fun for he ate dessert first, that way he knew he would enjoy and have room for his dessert. Now Janie was watching ever so closely to see if she could discover how he made the peas stay on the knife when he ate the peas. She tried, and the peas failed to stay on the knife. Grand Dad's jovial laughter echoed through out their home. Janie really knew that today was special because she was then given a knife with sticky stuff on it. Grand Dad dipped the knife into the peas and gave it to Janie. Sure enough, not a single pea fell off. The sticky stuff was so sweet and Janie learned it was honey.

It was soon time to take a walk down the lane. Janie chattered away asking Grand Dad questions about everything they passed. A hop toad, a turtle and many birds all different colors and sizes. They were nearing the railroad tracks and Janie listened intently to see if she could hear the "choo-choo-train" first. She knew it was near because Grand Dad lifted her up in his arms so she could see the train as it rounded the bend near a large stand of trees. Oh what great fun to wave at the train. They blew the great big whistle, clanged the bell .

And big white puffy clouds came out of it, too. Then at the end was the red caboose and someone always stood on the back and waved to them. They knew Grand Dad for he worked on the train during the depression.

As they strolled back toward the house they took a detour toward the garden. They had to check for potato bugs on the plants. Janie was hoping with all her heart that the "Skeeter-Skater" would come to help. He was the neatest, best helper. A great giant mosquito that wore ice skates and helped Grand Dad with all the chores. Janie sneaked through the plants and tall grasses hoping to see the "Skeeter-Skater". She couldn't find him, but Grand Dad knew right where to find him. He took Janie by the hand to the front porch, then Janie bent down and looked through the tiny holes in the lattice work. Quietly they went back inside to their favorite spot, Grand Dad's rocking chair. Grand Dad told Janie that the "Skeeter-Skater" needed to get some sleep because he had helped chop at least three cords of wood. Grand Dad had also worked as a lumber jack during the lean times. They then loaded the huge sled with wood and the "Skeeter-Skater" would glide across the pond very rapidly. Grand Dad was so lucky to have a friend like the "Skeeter-Skater". Maybe some day Janie could have a pair of skates and help too.

Grand Dad left when Janie was only eight years old, but the "Skeeter-Skater" was always sleeping when Janie came to visit her Grandma. Many years later and Janie has children of her own, she and the children along with Janie's Mom drove down to see Grand Dad's home. Janie noticed that the lattice work was practically down. She stopped the car, walked to the porch, bent down; Janie knew then, at age 33 that her beloved Grand Dad and "Skeeter-Skater" were both having a grand time in Heaven.

Janie drove slowly back towards the highway, tears streaming down her cheeks. She then was brought back to reality when she heard her son ask his Grand Mom, why mommy was sad. Grand Mom answered,
"Janie isn't sad, she only had to say good-bye to a very special friend".

Yes, Janie did get a pair of skates, and every winter as she glided across the lake she would smile and remember Grand Dad and his "Skeeter-Skater".

Janie is seven: life changing moment

Today was to be a special day for Janie. School would once again start and her thirst for knowledge was bursting like an over filled water balloon.

September 6, 1951 was the day before, and the afternoon was very hot and humid with severe storms brewing like a secret potion in a witch's cauldron. Janie doesn't let this dampen her spirits for tomorrow she will be back in school. The storms are severe with tornadoes spawning from west to east across her beloved state of Michigan. Wreckage was heavy ending with a devastating hit on Flint, Michigan.

Janie arose the next morning only to find school had been canceled due to these storms. In the middle of the state where her family live, farm buildings and trees had been shredded and tossed about like tinker toys. All the people in her area had escaped with no loss of life.

It was then time to start the clean-up process and each person had their jobs to do with duties being assigned according to age. The three youngest consisted of her older sister, the youngest brother and Janie. She knew that the harder she worked the faster the next day would come and she would then go to school. Little did she know that her whole life would change drastically in one small moment?

Little brother did not wish to comply with the rules and as he defied his oldest sister's wishes, while Janie continued to do her tasks of picking up small branches and limbs. She was approximately twenty feet away when little brother threw one of his famous temper tantrums. He reached down and retrieved a heavy iron curtain rod; which in those days were used to hold the bottoms of the curtains straight and taut. He then hurled with all his might this heavy object directed at his oldest sister. His aim was off and the iron rod flew through the air striking Janie in the left temple and eye.

Janie fell to the ground immediately unconscious only remembering the pain and blood as she awoke traveling in a vehicle taking her far away from the farm. The next two weeks were a blur as the doctors operated three times trying desperately to regain Janie's eye sight.

Fate had played a cruel trick as Janie's life would never be one of the true happy, carefree days she had known and the life she so enjoyed. The learning would now be one of hurt, pain and loneliness. In spite of this tragic accident Janie continued her smiling happy ways and in her search of knowledge she discovered an inner strength and beauty which would see her through this life changing moment.

I usually write about my flowers and today you will learn about DIY! Due to a broken water pipe I have been for three weeks now demolition and remodel of kitchen.
Today I was working on staining doors for new cabinets. It is a stain polyurethane combined. After completing the doors, I kept looking at the cut out from the counter where the sink is now placed. I am not one to let materials go to waste. The ol' gray matter is swirling in my brain. I decide it would be ideal for a cutting board, but decide to use my stain mixture on the back side to protect my new counters.

Now comes the fun story.

I finish the back and sides of the cut out from the counter and had decided to use a paint roller for a fast smooth job. I go out side to trash barrel, with paper towels and roller in hand. Of course when you apply pressure to remove said stained roller, it will always drip. Unfortunately it had to be my toes that were on the receiving end of this dripping stain. Very hot and humid here today so the toes are now sticking rapidly together. What a great time for the phone to ring! I am hopping through kitchen, dining room and living room to get to the phone and leave no toe prints in my wake!!! I explain to caller my predicament and hang up. Naturally there was not a drop of paint thinner in the house. I retrieve a bottle of rubbing alcohol and apply with paper towels to get toes unstuck. The bad news is, I have a new two toed nail polish which I don't wear nail polish at all. The good news is, I didn't leave any toe prints any where in my path.
The picture is of the new cabinets where I cut the hole to fit over the new water pipes. That took me a while to get brave enough to cut the hole because I didn't wish to ruin my new cabinets with a mess around the pipes. I will say I am proud of my job so far, but I am far from finished.

Red Hot Poker Plant

After nursing this plant for three years I finally get to enjoy the beauty I was waiting for. My flowers were blessed with some early rain this spring, but now have been in drought condition again. I know this isn't in full glory yet, but will post again in a few days with "hopefully" all it's beauty.

Finally some relief from the heat and humidity, and the flowers were sure happy this morning, so here they are. The pink Calla Lily was hiding beneath the Easter Lily. One snowball after 10 years of nursing the bush, finally changed where it was planted and it loves it's new spot. My pictures wouldn't be complete without my Brow Eyed Susan's. To the right side of blog you will find the Gardenia bush in bloom and smelling delightful after the rain last night.

Sorry but I have been a little busy, I will get back to regular posting and bring you up to date about my flowers and all things bright and beautiful. I completely redid four of my flower beds and am looking forward to seeing my lovely orchid lilies once again. They are already about one foot high. We have had some rain periodically so every flower and bush seems to be happy.
As you know full moon is tonight and even though I have slept soundly, there has been traces of the reoccurring dream. I felt like I seen the hair but still no face. Oh well life goes on and if it happens then so much for mysteries.
I finally went to have my blood checked, from the incident back in October when something poisoned my system so badly. Doctor says I have beautiful blood once again. OH NO, did I say full moon tonight!! Please don't let any vampires read this post.LOL

I have for the most part of my sixty five years lived I small towns. Never in my life had I encountered any trouble till I moved to a small community in North Carolina.

In twenty one years I have had bank statements opened. Bills missing causing extra money in canceled checks and late fees.

The most frustrating is the missing birthday and Christmas cards especially if they have an out of state return address. We have continually reported these actions to the stat postal inspector only to be told that there is a waiting list to be put on a waiting list for this area.

I have many times had to stand in line to mail a package for over half an hour with only three people in line. It is evident that the local gossip is more important than sending mail. Letters that should arrive in three days take upwards of six days.

The most outrageous incident was a birthday card sent to a special friend in Pennsylvania. I deposited the card at 11:45 AM in the inside slot for out of area mail. One hour later I received a phone call from a lady that recognized my name on a ripped check found in her front yard. We retrieved the ripped envelope, check and card. We proceeded to confront the post master only to be given excuse as to how it happened. They wanted the evidence and said they would handle the situation. We refused, sent the evidence to the Post master general for our state from a larger city out of state. Four weeks later the person mysteriously was replaced and sent to another state. During the remaining time we only received flyers and advertising.

We still have bank statements opened at least four times per year and certain cards missing from immediate family members out of state. The important mail that I have to send requires extra money due to certification, but at least I know they receive my messages.

I couldn't resist placing my picture where all could see the beauty of this bloom! It has been near sixty degrees and rained hard all night long. I finally ventured a peek outside and what did I see? Yes in all it's glory, and by tomorrow there will be more. Hyacinths, daffodils, tulips and even the hydrangea bush is sprouting. The temperature is falling fast and I'm glad some are hearty enough to with stand these sudden changes. Me I am still trying to figure out what I should do about many of my orchid and other lily bulbs that where to be transplanted last October when I was so ill from whatever poisoned my system. By time I was back on my feet it was so cold and rainy that I didn't venture outside. Enjoy!! Spring may be early since winter was.

Reincarnation-What type of life after death?

Janie has always been a curious person. As a child, she would always ask questions of her Mother. Mom knew how and what to answer. Today Janie wishes for her Mother because she has questions many people would like to know the answer.

This question has been on Janie’s mind for many months. She laughs and jokes about this subject with friends and family. Deep down inside Janie finds she would like to know more about “Reincarnation”.

When you are raised in a Christian manner, you accept and believe what you are taught. Then out of nowhere some thing happens and you question your sanity, beliefs and all you have been taught.

Janie and her husband had both been very fond of wildlife and often would go for a drive through their area of residence to observe. Many times, just sitting on their patio, they could watch deer grazing, a possum searching for a scrap of food and both truly enjoyed watching the foxes. They never tried to tame these creatures for they were born wild and should remain wild.

Approximately a year and a half had passed since Janie’s husband had died. In her heart she felt he was in heaven. Late in April, Janie’s beliefs were shaken.

She had tossed some stale bread out for the birds or what ever creature passed through the back yard. Janie was standing by the open kitchen window when a fox appeared out of the slowly falling dusk. This fox immediately seemed different to Janie. It was in no hurry to grab the bounty and run as the others often did. This fox sat and slowly chewed each bite till all was gone.

The next evening Janie noticed the fox waiting patiently near the patio. Janie knew if she opened the door the fox would run for the cover of the woods. But this fox did not run. Watching Janie place the skin of the baked potato and pork chop bone on a paper plate the fox remained sitting quietly until Janie was back inside her home. Only then did the fox approach, sit and slowly enjoy the meal. Each day this fox appeared and Janie then observed that it was a female fox with nursing young. Then to Janie’s surprise the fox bowed its head. After the submissive gesture the fox looked Janie straight in the eyes. Janie’s heart skipped more than a few beats, for she had never seen a fox with eyes like this, for they were more of a human eye. Janie knew those eyes. She had gazed into them before.

Janie never knew what time or when this fox would appear. Janie observed from inside and would watch as this special fox would eat part of what was given, then bow toward the window, where Janie stood quietly watching, pick the rest of the food up in her mouth and leave. Janie was prepared the next evening with a set of binoculars. The same beautiful eyed fox followed the same ritual except for a different time pattern than the other foxes. Janie watched through the binoculars and discovered two small babies waiting.

Janie called her cousin long distance. They talked of family and friends. Finally Janie mentioned reincarnation and told her cousin of the strange female fox with twins. They both laughed for many times Janie’s husband had spoken to her cousin about the enjoyment of watching the foxes.

Janie and her cousin simultaneously said, “Well at least he knows what giving birth feels like, and it serves him right for coming back as a female fox.”

The last days before death.

Janie was finally bringing her beloved husband home from the hospital. The doctor’s had questioned and explained in detail the stressful, strenuous and demanding nature of a husband dying. The doctor’s did not sugar coat this issue, therefore Janie knew it would be the end. Janie had promised many years ago that if it were within her power she would respect her husband’s wishes to die at home and not in a nursing home or hospital.

Janie had faithfully spent each day at the hospital through three weeks of tests, operation and removal of the horrid fast growing cancer in his brain. Never once did he forget who she was and how much they had lived and loved for one another. Theirs had been a love faithful and true for all nineteen years. Their anniversary had been only a week prior to his admission to the hospital and the discovery of this deadly tumor.

Every evening after leaving the hospital Janie would paint ceilings, wash walls, scrub carpets and floors in preparation for her husbands return home. Several times during the few quiet moments they would share between tests and relatives visiting, he would mention some thing that she had worked on the previous night instead of sleeping. Janie often felt his presence even though she was alone in their home. This was some thing Janie didn’t understand but for years they had talked about being able to will yourself some where and actually feel as if you were there.

When a person is so close to death some thing happens and they can see and talk to people as if they were alive or in the room. Janie’s husband often did this after he was home. The hospice head nurse and chaplain had explained these occurrences to Janie. He would often speak to his Mother and Father. For his Mother it was always a loving smile. For his Father it was to be forgiven for not taking proper care of the milk cow one hot summer day. Janie’s husband had told her of this incident, where at age sixteen he decided he was a man and didn’t have to do as his Father asked. He soon discovered that he wasn’t quite as grown up as he felt he was.

Janie had been told by the chaplain that if she knew what the circumstances which lead to these questions that it was fine to reassure her husband that he was forgiven. Often after each of these sessions He would go limp and almost lifeless.

One such incident caught Janie by surprise. It was three days before his death that Janie witnessed one such frightening occurrence. Janie had been told by the nurse that she would have to administer an enema at seven thirty the next morning. Janie admitted that she had never before given an enema to anyone. The nurse went over each step with Janie that evening before she left. The next morning by phone, as promised the nurse assured Janie that she could do this task.

Janie drew a deep breath and explained to her husband that she had to do this task. He smiled and gave her a kiss and helpfully posed himself in the proper position. Janie reassured her husband, as well as herself, and slowly with gentle pressure began the painful enema. Janie’s husband cried a mournful sob and in a voice she did not recognize he stated, “Stop this pain, I say stop it now. All you have ever done is to cause me pain.” Once again he called out his ex-wife’s name and stated, “You will never cause me pain again for I damn you to hell now.” Janie removed the empty enema bottle, pulled the protective sheet over her husband’s back side and on trembling legs she attempted to stand. Janie walked to the side of the bed for her husband lay still and to Janie, lifeless. Janie collapsed to her knees and gently placed her fingers on her husband’s wrist. Tears came from nowhere. Janie felt the loving touch of her husband’s hand against her cheek. He was smiling his little boy impish smile that Janie loved so very much and asked for a kiss. It was at that moment that Janie realized she had not been blamed for the pain administered moments before.

The nurse arrived moments later as did the chaplain. They both could see that Janie was visibly shaken. The nurse made an excuse for Janie and the chaplain to leave the room. It was hard to relive that moment but the chaplain reassured Janie all was well.

Two days later Janie was alone with her husband. Relatives, nurses and friends had been in and out most of the day. Janie stood by her husband’s bedside and talked gently as he lay there smiling. They had started the morphine about twelve hours earlier. In a slurred but loving voice Janie’s husband asked for a kiss good night. Upon receiving his kiss he said, “I love you Janie.” Janie’s palm of her hand lay against his and he smiled drew a deep breath and sighed. Janie’s fingers felt the life race from her beloved husband’s body.

I know it has been some time since I lasted posted on my blog, but things have been a little rough and time consuming. I will catch you up now and even though my blog says, "Things that make me Happy", the only happiness is that I am here to write about this.
In September I found myself not feeling to good and becoming weak. I was eating fine, yet found it hard to really do much. I was planning on visiting my doctor the evening of October 1st. By mid-afternoon I was at the point where I finally admitted to myself I couldn't wait that long so I dialed 911. I agreed to go to the hospital and was trying to be brave even though I really don't like hospitals.
After being admitted, tests were ran and finally the doctors came to talk to me. They had all been very kind and understanding so I was happy about that. I was told that I had some way ingested some thing poison, my white blood count was at 18 and my lower intestines was a mass of infection.
They gave me a little food to eat (yes I was paranoid) in order for me to start the antibiotics.
I had called someone to come and get me home and asked that she bring me a jacket because I was half frozen. She arrived and had brought me a full length flannel nightie and a jacket. I asked why the nightie and she said she figured I might be easier to get to bed than to try and change after taking medication.
One hour after taking the medication I started having strong cravings for Scallops Alfredo. I think I drove her crazy saying I could even taste them and here she had me riding home in a flannel nightie.
While I am on this subject I might as well confess that I also had life's most embarrassing moment. After arriving at the hospital safe and sound one of the medics sat down next to my bed still asking questions and making out papers. All of a sudden a pain hit and hit hard. I yelled and said which way to bathroom. I will say he can move very fast. Before the nurse could get to me it was too late. All I can say is why did it have to be the most handsome hunk ever and I had to have a not so nice accident.
I have been eating bananas and drinking gator aid trying to build some thing back plus eating better. I also had the craving for Scallops Alfredo every time I took the antibiotics. It has only been the last few days that I have started feeling almost human again.
They couldn't say what I had ate because it had been close to eight days prior and didn't say what type of poison. I just have to look in the frig and I become paranoid but I know I have to eat to be better. I will be a good girl and all I can say is I hope I never have to face that medic ever again.

Ready for internet marketing

I now have my new blog up and ready to go for my new venture. I know I have more to learn but the major points are done. I have my new domain name and my new blog as well as host server. Now the hard part, getting customers.
Since this blog is a little of everything, I will let you know my Gardenia bush is loaded with blooms. Some times they can really be over whelming. Especially on a hot muggy day like today. Also a pink calla lily bloomed today too. These are the little things that do make me happy, therefore I can proceed with my studying and internet marketing.

I was so excited this morning when I went out to my flower beds to check on some recent transplants. My precious yellow calla lily was finally peeking through, and it brought tears to my eyes. If you haven't seen it in all it's beauty then scroll down for you will find the photo posted "Can You See Me". After winning an award on that photo last fall, I would have been heart broken to have lost it because of moles tunneling under everything and finding some of my lovely lily bulbs over 18 inches down in the ground.
I decided to make it easy on you and just uploaded the photo of my calla lily. This was a special gift for my birthday 8 years ago and that is why I am so protective of this special plant.

As to my ant problem I found out what was going on. These ants are called soap ants and are attracted to soap, they love the soap. That is why under the drain board in the kitchen, in the bathroom sink and even the clothes washer. My sister had this problem so she knew what was going on.
While I am at it I might as well let you know about a couple other goodies from my sister. In trying to cut back on costs of foods you naturally go for less expensive, right? NO! I was complaining about the taste of my foods because of using a less expensive cooking oil. Wrong again. It is less expensive to buy a bottle of good olive oil, not only does it help the taste of the food but you only use a touch of it instead of a lot and your food doesn't stick either.
So next time your big sister gives you advise, take it and use it, they are smarter than you think. Maybe that is because they have been around longer. Oh, sorry about that, she is a smart sister.

I don't know where they are coming from, but about every other day I am finding ants. No trail of where they are coming or going, just a big clump of little tiny red ants so small if there wasn't so many, you wouldn't see them. I know last summer after the garage burned down they did and ozone treatment to the house so everything living including mold or spores, ants or spiders were destroyed. So why now am I being invaded. This is like every other day. I should have shares in the bug company.

I found one lone pansy growing at the edge of one of my flower beds. But as usual the batteries were dead on my camera. I posted this colored pencil instead. My roses will be glorious by next week and you can bet I will have batteries by then. The orchid lilies are looking strong and healthy but no sign of my yellow calla lily yet.

Unseasonably hot

Oh, it is hot for April. I am sure the motor cycle riders enjoyed it for it was also bike week at the Outer Banks of NC. 93 degrees Sunday.
I finally got the lawn mower running and it took more than four hours to mow due to the fact it hadn't been done this year. I sure enjoyed getting out in the fresh air. Besides we are going back to normal temperatures after tomorrow.
Good news, the strange weather during February did not kill my "Kiss Me Over the Garden Gate" plants. I found 10 of them poking their heads out. My Orchid Lilies are doing wonderful, strong stems and healthy. Awww I know, I love my flowers.

I have named my new painting
"Place of Serenity"

Here is my unnamed painting of the arched bridge.I have a storm brewing in the back ground due to the WWAO challenge for March.
I need to get this off my chest now so here goes. A friend stopped by just after I had place the clouds in the sky and started criticizing my thermal vortex forming and coming out of the top of the storm coming. I explained what it was and she flat told me she didn't like that. So being stubborn, bullheaded person that I am I left it in. She is confident that clouds don't look like another batch is forming behind. But I guess since I've been through 14 tornadoes I do know what a sky looks like.
I hope all who check this out won't be to harsh on me and my clouds. Have a Serene day and relax by my Ol' stone arched bridge.

It is way passed sleepy time but I had to say, my new painting is almost done. It has an arched stone bridge which I have always admired. I do believe I have been watching too much DIY. Hopefully it will be posted tomorrow if the weather holds and we don't have freezing temperatures.
This winter has been something else, very cold here and then we had a few days with sunny warm weather and all my spring daffodils and tulips decided to come up. I have two blooms on one of the daffodils, I think I may get a shock tomorrow.

I received a picture from Michigan from my sister which showed all that was left of the farm we grew up on. I was sad but decided to paint it. As I worked on the painting my mood changed because it brought back many many good memories. The barn is full of holes, sagging a bit but then that happens even to people, so I will enjoy this and may put it on Christmas cards for my family. Enjoy!!!
I also issued a challenge to the WWAO group to paint their home place. It has been accepted.

Update: I woke up at 2:30 this morning and knew I had forgotten something on my painting. I was right I forgot to high light trees, so I then did it. I decided to name it "Faded Memories".

I just completed a major project. I painted my home from one end to the other and top to bottom.. Took me a month and a bout with over doing it as well... I am happy with the results.. It went from 20 years of a dirty beige to all things bright and beautiful..The yellow is breakfast nook and kitchen and the green is living room and orange is dining room.. OK so I went drastic but I like it and I'm the one looking at it daily... Enjoy my labor of love!!!!

Did I say Auction???? How about a fire sale!!!

Well here I sit trying to figure out what happened and why... Approximately 10:00 I decided to take a quick peanut butter sandwich break from all the sorting and cleaning for the items that are to be in the auction. After eating the sandwich I felt the need to speak to my son in Michigan.... I couldn't reach him and found out today that my first great grand son had been hit exremely hard in the head with a base ball bat... I had tried to reach a couple of other people as well and then started out the back door to continue on with my sorting of the tools. I had picked up the phone to see what time the auction people were to arrive and as I looked at the garage I seen what looked like a pillar of fire from the floor to the roof of my wood working shop. As I ran toward the garage dialing 911, I was headed for the water hose at the garage door, when the fire seemed to disburse in all directions at once.... I changed my progress direction and as I was giving my information to 911 operator I broke into a full run to the fire station next door... The phone had a funny sound and I couldn't hear the operator any more... I found out later that the phone line in the garage had been burned and my phone was left in an open state...The firemen were out on another call and headed back in as I heard paint cans exploding.. Two paramedics were headed out to my place and backed up to get out of the way and get the rest of the information and let 911 know I was O.K....
Two and a half hours later all I could see was a complete disaster staring at me from my garage.... Everything lay blackened and in gobs of melted masses of plastic and chared wood.. The tears flowing down my cheeks were hot as the raging infurno had been earlier... My hopes and dreams were lying in rubble...
This was on Wednesday, by Thurseday I was going through the motions in a dazed state trying to contact the right people and figure out what to do next... The phone company took a whole day to get out there and get my phone working... Then the sissy man was afraid to go under the house for fear he might run into a cobweb.. I told him there was more of a chance to get cobwebs in the main house than under it.. Now a snake would have been my fear.. The fire chief came and took pictures and went through the whole mess and it indeed was the fan.. For some reason which we can't figure out, the cord over heated and caused this horrible disaster...
This morning crews arrived and everything started to fall in place.. By this evening I had a much more possitive out look and many of the tools were still intact... Plus two chaplains and a grief counselor had talked with me, the insurance company arrived and the auction will go on.. Minus many tools but with many that were under the clutter of the burnt building..
I shall continue forward, maybe at a large loss but I will survive for I could have been in the building when things started to explode.. I have my life and I will live..I also hope my dream for my art gallery will also live...

I have been asked to expand on my auction. Here goes.
I found myself in a position where there were funeral and headstone to pay along with many bills from doctors and hospitals. As I sat in my Doctors office the words of my late husband kept running through my brain. No we better save this or no you will need these things later on.
I went home and got out the phone book and carefully assessed the different auction and antique dealers in my area. I made the call and left my name and phone number. Shortly my call was answered and an appointment was made to come assess what my position and theirs and would we be able to work my situation out. We agreed and started going through many antiques that I would be willing to part with. Things moved slow and a lot of red tape had to be cut. Then one morning I awakened very early and as I sat sipping my coffee a plan formed. I knew I wanted my art gallery and the garage was the only logical space. That was filled to the rim with tools of every shape and size imaginable. I called early and spoke to the antique dealer and asked what would happen if we tried to have the auction right here rather than carry them all over the state to different auctions. They had been speaking of the same idea that morning as well.
They went ahead and in about two weeks we had permission from the county to have the auction here.
Now the fun part, we will start Monday sorting and preparing tables in the garage and all other aspects of the auction are in place. They are handling every thing: signs, advertising, auctioneer, permits and parking. This will be at a cost of 25% goes to them and 75% goes to me. I do know that many places charge as high as 35% for doing an auction.
The hard part is the memories, you will have to put them safely away in your heart.

I received word that the county has OK'ed the auction and is to be held here on September 13, 2008. I will be so busy now and will be praying for a great turn out. This will hopefully help will the art gallery, which is my dream, to become a reality.
I have butterflies with lead booties doing a dance in my tummy.
Anyone that happens to be in north east North Carolina that day, please bring money, LOL

Morning at beach

Went to the beach today, first time in five years. After wading for some time, trying to keep clothes dry, I made the mistake of turning my back to the ocean. Sure enough a rather large wave slipped up behind me and knocked me on my back, then in an attempt to right myself, I was hit again and went head long into the foaming water and sand. By this time my friend laughing and saying she wished she had a camera.
I had a few things on my mind to clear, and I do believe I accomplished that with one quick wave. Did it help? Yes, but the pain will always be with me. Of course there is nothing like a free pedicure compliments of mother nature to make a lady feel better.

5 MINUTE CHOCOLATE MUG CAKE

4 tablespoons flour
4 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons cocoa
1 egg
3 tablespoons milk
3 tablespoons oil
3 tablespoons chocolate chips (optional)
a small splash of vanilla extract
1 large coffee mug

Add dry ingredients to mug, and mix well. Add the egg and mix thoroughly. Pour
in the milk and oil and mix well. Add the chocolate chips (if using) and vanilla
extract, and mix again.

Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes at 1000 watts. The cake
will rise over the top of the mug, but don't be alarmed! Allow to cool a little,
and tip out onto a plate if desired.   EAT!

This can serve 2 if you want to feel slightly more virtuous.  And why is
this the most dangerous cake recipe in the world?   Because now we are all only

I came across the only portrait ever done of my husband and also realized it was the only portrait that I also had ever done.. It is a very good likeness and he was pleased with it.. Maybe I better stop while I am ahead, and go back to the wicked stick men..I'm great at those..LOL
I have been busy going through antiques and tools in the garage so that my dream of an art gallery can become a reality.. Tons to go through, I just hope they don't accidentally tag me..

At 3:27 AM, I was startled from my sleep by a tremendous boom. Then I saw lightening and another roar. I later found out that a tornado had touch down here in Grandy and was headed for the Currituck Beach Lighthouse across the sound about 5 miles as the crow flies. Oh well, so much for a full nights sleep.
I'm just glad it was over quick and without any damage. I just received pictures from what hit my home area of Michigan last night so it was a little unnerving to say the least. Oh yes, of coarse Omaha, NE. as well..My knees are beginning to get flat spots from all the praying..
Good news, my "Kiss Me Over the Garden Gate" flowers have reached the eves of my patio. I am so proud of my flowers this year. But camera has let me down. I now have to replace the card. It wasn't the batteries at all.
Shall I continue.
A bouquet of roses appeared on my porch with a card from my husband. If you've read my blog or know me you know that hasn't been possible since he died in December. Then one week later, Belgium chocolate hand dipped strawberries and huge cookies arrive. Same message. So after calling my Dr. he sent the paramedics over to get my vitals. I finally over came this mess by laughing and saying, "Hubby would have went to my flower garden, picked me a bouquet and put them in what ever vase was handy, not a Waterford Crystal vase". No way can you use a credit card from heaven.. I guess it helps to have a sense of humor every now and again.
Let's see now, I really should find something else to do but can't work outside because our temperatures have been so hot. Yesterday 100 degrees in the shade. This is not normal. It has cooled a little today because of the rain, or whatever went through this morning. I think I will read for a while, but I will probably get into trouble doing that, it seems of late I can manage without ever leaving the house. Maybe that's what I'm doing wrong!!

Princess Garden

This is my new area for mostly my Japanese Red Maples and other smaller bushes that hopefully will grow to be much larger. In the little waterfall fixture that doesn't work any more I discovered a tiny spring frog in the fixture. Just as I finished the new garden I heard her start to sing. I got a tear then and named it "Princess Garden". It really sets the back yard off and shows up so beautiful as you drive up the driveway.
I can hardly wait for it to develope and will probably spend a lot of time making sure all is OK. I seen a couple other spring frogs in the pump house the other day, so I just may have to catch them and put them in the new garden. And they all lived happily ever after. LOL

I'm keeping my promise

As I promised; here is the picture of my "Kiss Me Over the Garden Gate" and my Orchid Lilies gone wild. It is only mid-May and usually they are only about six to twelve inches tall but this year they are already over three feet tall. I would dare wager that they will go past the eves at this rate. Any Takers?
Last year one of the blooms on the orchid lily was almost twelve inches across. Also if you go back to my post "Spring has sprung" you will see the same spot only with my Easter flowers just blooming. A very drastic change wouldn't you say. Ahhhh my mommy and grandma would be so proud...
While I am thinking about it; Mother's Day we had a tornado touch down less than four miles for me. The reason I say we is because my son, on the phone from Michigan talked me through the radar because I couldn't get anything on TV. All Hail and lightening broke loose and we hung up and I went to my safe spot. It may have been the scariest Mother's Day but I feel it was pretty sweet too.

My flowers are growing like there is no tomorrow and looking so healthy. My first rose is now in bloom and the "Kiss Me Over the Garden Gate" and Orchid Lilies are doing spectacular. the stalks are strong and heigth great. I think I stated before that there were so many plants this year. Someone up there loves me and is watching over and helping my flowers do so well. The weather is cooperating and we are having a few showers and also finally some heavy dew in the morning. One lady asked about my flowers and I just said, I talk to them and tell them they are going to be the prettiest flowers around. They respond by showing off their beauty for me. See,!!! what other tales can I tell today? Oh yes , the reason there is not a photo of my beauties is because I discovered the batteries are dead in my camera. I promise I will replace the batteries as soon as I can. I haven't seen any sign of my calla lily yet, remember "Can You See Me" from last year. I hope the moles that invaded this winter didn't get it. I would really rather not get hostile but might do so if I don't see the calla lily soon.

My friend flew back to Michigan today and it is really quiet here tonight.
We are to get some more rain tomorrow and I am happy for that. My flowers have almost tripled in size since the rain last week. The grass is green and growing.

Catching up on our rain here in NENC. My plants are loving ever moment of it. My kiss me over the garden gate are really growing and really multiplied this year I can hardly wait to photograph them and share.
The daffodils are almost gone but some I planted late will kick in by next week.
Enjoying my visit with my childhood friend and we had a wonderful time this week, time flew by and I imagine this week will as well. Will be sorry to see her go.

I know I am always complaining about no rain but why do we have to have severe storms coming in when I have a 150 mile round trip to the airport to pick up my friend that is flying in from Michigan tomorrow night.. Saturday night traffic, every loony on earth will be out driving like there is no tomorrow!!
Maybe it will speed up and be gone before 7 PM and the trip will go OK.
I once again have house-maids knees. But that breakfast nook looks great.. New table cloth, floor spotless and me sore from trying to squeeze through a one foot opening to get under the table and the benches, all built in.. My sister was laughing pretty hard Thursday evening when I described my ordeal of scrubbing the floor. No photos on this one.

I remember Grandma always saying, rain and sun shining would mean bad storms. Well I do believe it is time to batten down the hatches. We've been receiving some of the rain and my flowers are really coming along in happy fashion!
My Azalea bush will bloom for my birthday, so I know everything is on time this year. I know the blooms won't be as full and beautiful as last year, due to the beetles that attacked last year.
I am anxiously awaiting Saturday evening, my friend I grew up with will arrive for a long over due two week visit. All I can say is, "Northeast North Carolina" will never be the same! News must travel fast, because so far I have received phone calls from my oldest brother, my friends, boyfriend and if I see my sons phone number come up, I am NOT answering the phone. I already received a lecture on being out at my age after dark. I do believe I gave a similar lecture 30 some years ago..
Trixie is on her way to New Jersey. I hope she arrives safe and sound!

I was just in checking on the post to Helium, the hardest one to write, but doctors orders are doctors orders. The great part about it is not the story, but, I finally received ranking today. I HAVE A STAR... So I am happy!! I really got a laugh from another story that I read. The women said when found herself in severe pain, that all of a sudden she was surrounded by a bunch of guys that looked like guys from a chip and dale show!!!WHOOO HOOO and here she was in blue thermals full of holes!!! I know that feeling.. Always would happen when hubby needed 911...

I found a new flower today that I forgot I had planted. It is a miniature Iris, Dutch Iris, and it was hiding behind a clump of miniature daffodils. WOW! What beautiful color for such a little plant. Now I know what they mean by good things come in small packages..
I also finished the keepsake box top today of Trixie, the beagle, and still have two coats of polyurathane to go before I get to put it on the box and ship it.. Will post a picture of Trixie finished..

The flowers know it is spring and have arrived in brilliant yellows, pinks, blues, lavenders and purples.
The bulbs so lovingly planted the day after Christmas, have met my expectations. I can enjoy this beautiful view any time day or night from my kitchen window. Makes me almost feel like I should do dishes or some thing like that.
They will look so pretty Sunday for Easter!
I would imagine the daffodils will really show up tomorrow night for full moon.

You will break hearts too, so remember how it felt when yours was broken. You'll fight with your best friend. You'll blame a new love for things an old one did. You'll cry because time is passing too fast, and you'll eventually lose someone you love. So take too many pictures, laugh too much, and love like you've never been hurt because every sixty seconds you spend upset is a minute of happiness you'll never get back.

Oh they are trying ever so hard to push through and arise with all the glory and beauty that spring can offer!! All this rain has really stirred my flowers and they are coming a long great. I picked my first batch yesterday and the smell of double daffodils waft through the air all night long. I still fear for my "Kiss Me Over the Garden Gates" for I'm sure we are not done with frost yet! They come up from seed and believe me they are up in abundance this year. I shall watch ever so close and if necessary, tuck them in at night should a cold spell hit. We are at 66 degrees this morning with rain heavy at times. I'm loving it. If you have never grown flowers in sand during a drought, then you wouldn't understand how my heart soars when I see the beautiful blooms! This I can say proudly since you can all enjoy the photos that I post.
I am going to once again this year attempt to grow Moon flowers, it has been a few years since I last grew them. My friend has also promised me some of her "Red Hot Poker" plants.

Trying to work on the beagle for one of the keepsake boxes. It took me four hours to do those beautiful, sad eyes. I had to put my brushes down and walk away after that. Started back working on it today any first thing, a spot of paint got too near the right eye. "Bummer"!!! So then I went to the wood working shop only to find, I have a leak in my roof. Maybe I should just hang it up for today.

Spring Cleaning

I started my spring cleaning today, it seem like I just did fall cleaning. I started with my house plants and they are a little upset with me. It was 31 degrees when I sat them on the back porch (in the sun) and really flushed them with water. After that I put them back inside and found them new spots. I think I may have upset a couple little spiders doing all this. Oh well, better the spiders than me!!
The robins received a treat this morning. The bird bath was frozen so I put some hot water in it and they thought they had their own private sauna.. The water that was draining off the porch from the plants they enjoyed as well.. I stood inside the kitchen window and watched them play.. Also a hawk made off with a black bird. I may not really like all the black birds that hog the feeder, but I didn't like to see death in my back yard either..
Yah, I know, I'm just an old softy when it comes to the wild life. I think the fox that goes through my back yard may have had a romantic encounter. She is looking a bit chubby, if you know what I mean..
Time to get back to my writing, Janie is waiting anxiously to be released.

A friend of mine was rather impressed with the "Janie" stories and said when I get through with "Janie" and her mischief, that she would gladly illustrate the book if I would consider doing a book.

I know it is still February, but my plants are really getting anxious and some are in bloom, others that shouldn't peek out yet, have..
Of coarse, I am anxious as well, every morning I go out and check to see how they are doing and give them a few words of encouragement.. Yes, I do talk to them!!
We've had some very wonderful rain, very much needed may I add.. I spend a good deal of the day outside, but today it is cold and blah, so I shall do some writing..

Earlier this week I was awakened about 2:00 A.M. feeling extremely cold. I finally slipped out from under my covers and raced to start the gas wall heater, it was really cold that night. I then went to adjust the thermostat and nothing happened, so I tried again. My furnace would not come on. I was so cold that I couldn't think straight. Finally I went to the kitchen and turned on all four burners hoping for more heat. Boy did I get it fast. There were two small and I do mean tiny spots of grease on one burner, and that is all it took. That little tiny itsy bitsy amount of smoke set off both smoke detectors immediately, if not sooner. No fire, just a little puff of smoke. I rushed to the first one waving my arms frantically telling it to shut up. Then to the other one doing the same thing. Now that one would stop-start-stop-start and in between I was turning on fans. I finally got the smoke detectors to stop, and believe me there is nothing to put you in fear faster than that sound at 2:30 in the morning.
Finally I was able to think sanely again and I knew the furnace had pulled that trick before. About three years ago I remembered that I had to flip the breaker switch off and then back on. That did it and so off went the stove burners, gas heater and after adjusting the thermostat I crawled back under the covers. A shame there wasn't a video, because I am sure that would have won first place with honors as well.

Today it is 70 degrees and two days ago it was 30 degrees.
I think we need to talk to whoever is in charge of the weather.
I should be outside playing in the dirt, but am expecting company so I better restrain myself for a while. Now that I stop and think about it, maybe they are outside enjoying this weather.
I still have about 100 bulbs that need to go in the ground, and today would be perfect.
I've had a few comments from my Yuwie friends about my Blidgets. I think the best one was, "What is a Blidget?"
